The Beatles : Rock Band Trailer

I’ve never played Rock Band. In fact, the only games I play are with women’s emotions. Play on playa! But this trailer is dope. If only it had John Madden in the back going “BOOM!”

The Beatles Return! Reissue Extravaganza

Just coming across the wire-

THE BEATLES’ ENTIRE ORIGINAL RECORDED CATALOGUE REMASTERED BY APPLE CORPS LTD. AND EMI MUSIC FOR WORLDWIDE RELEASE ON SEPTEMBER 9, 2009 (9-9-09)
London, England – April 7, 2009 – Apple Corps Ltd. and EMI Music are delighted to announce the release of the original Beatles catalogue, which has been digitally re-mastered for the first time, for worldwide CD release on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 (9-9-09), the same date as the release of the widely anticipated “The Beatles: Rock Band” video game. Each of the CDs is packaged with replicated original UK album art, including expanded booklets containing original and newly written liner notes and rare photos. For a limited period, each CD will also be embedded with a brief documentary film about the album. On the same date, two new Beatles boxed CD collections will also be released.

Beatles packaging

Like millions of red blooded humans, The Beatles are my favorite band of all time. I went to see “Rain- A Tribute To The Beatles” Sunday at the Pantages with my daughter who loved it (I wanted to tell her we were seeing the real Beatles but she has known since she was four that George and John are no longer with us). My favorite unnecessary spending pastime is re-buying CDs I already own, usually with bonus tracks I already own and remastered sound that I can’t really hear the difference since I’m too deaf at this point. Add it all up and you’ve got me in heaven when I read that they are reissuing the Beatles catalogue on CD. I have every song on these collections already, on both CD and vinyl, but who cares- it’s the friggin’ Beatles, right!? I think it’s interesting when they reissue the mono versions of albums from the 60s, basically this is for baby boomers who were alive during the era and remember hearing the music in mono for the first time. I recently purchased Otis Redding’s masterpiece Otis Blue which comes with both the stereo and mono mixes and was surprised that I enjoyed the mono mix better. 60s stereo is basically half the instruments in each channel, with vocals on one side or the other. Kind of jenky. Anyhow, for those of us who are probably not going to partake in “The Beatles: Rock Band” (I need a gaming addiction like I need to mix crack with my heroin at this point), the reissues insure Santa is going to have specific instructions for this year’s holiday season.

In the meantime, as we approach our tax deadline enjoy the Beatles “Taxman” cartoon.

Carney - VIMBY live @ Gibson

I was dreamin’ when I wrote this…or hopped up on Transphusion and PBR. Currently my rear is being handed to me by Carney @ the Gibby. These guys are so unabashedly loud n’ proud that they BTOE- bring their own earplugs. Musically, think “Dazed & Confused”esque Led Zep meets Jeff Buckley. They mix it up, too. A couple of non-90210 biker dudes came in, seems fitting. Mix them with the Troubadour crowd (the band recently played a sold out gig there and are gonna do the same in late April) and you have the perfect cocktail.
Whoa, a cover of the Beatles ” I Want You (She’s So Heavy) puts you in your place. Ballsy but effective. I think they just induced labor for Ms. Jenny.

PS apologies for the jenky photos; Ary forgot his memory and Zos left his at home.
