Heading down to Pasadena Sunday for the U2 show. Psyched for the concert, weary of the traffic and logistics as outlined here: http://tinyurl.com/yzpd93j. I have been following the set lists of this tour religiously but felt it was important to give the band the opportunity to gain perspective of what a lifelong fan wants to hear, within reason. The idea is to keep the integrity of their current setlist intact but tweak it to include some gems that the real fans would love to hear.
BreatheI really like the new album, but don’t understand why they keep pushing this song as one of the standout tracks. It was played on SNL a few weeks ago and is probably one of my least favorite songs on the album. Put it this way: I was at that SNL performance and after they performed it my wife looked at me and made a face implying “has your favorite modern band lost their touch?!” Lose the track altogether or bury it later in the set when I will undoubtedly need a beer. Instead start with Magnificent, my second favorite song on the new album that has a rousing anthemic quality we have grown accustomed to hearing from U2.
Get on Your Boots OK but I’ll probably get on my Converse instead.
Magnificent Mysterious Waysreplace with Even Better Than The Real Thing
Beautiful Day So overplayed but unavoidable. Would rather hear Zoo Station or The Fly, perhaps?
I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For
Stuck In A Moment
No Line on the Horizon ElevationFun song live, but let’s pull out an oldie but goldie like Two Hearts Beat As One or Like A Song instead. Seriously, Bono- the place will go apeshit.
In A Little While Unknown CallerGood but not great new song. Let’s hear In God’s Country instead.
Until The End of the World
Unforgettable Fire
City of Blinding Lights
Vertigo
I’ll Go Crazy - Remix Sunday Bloody SundayNever need to hear this song again. If you’re looking for me during this song I’ll probably on a bathroom/beer run. Replace with A Sort Of Homecoming.
MLK- followed by Bad, please!!
Walk On
One
Where The Streets Have No Name
Encore:
Ultraviolet
With or Without You
Moment of Surrender My favorite song on the new album, and probably the song I’ve listened to more this year than any song from any band. Sadly, I’ll be scrambling to the parking lot during it’s performance. 96,000 cars leaving the stadium at the same time merits sacrificing a song and a half to try to beat the traffic.
Bono, Edge, Adam and Larry- you’re welcome. See you Sunday.
Love

We are a mere 24 hours or so from the kick off of the dustbowl hipster cavalcade that is Coachella, and the hot rumor is that none other than Jane’s Addiction and Weezer are joining the line up for the weekend. Word from one of the Coachella staffers is that Jane’s is confirmed for the Saturday line up with Weezer TBD. Could be complete BS but if spreading wacky rumors with no regard for journalistic integrity isn’t the cornerstone of internet bloggery, what is!?
Hey, there's me!
Assessing the rumor, on the one hand I think it’s believable since both bands are LA based, Coachella vets and while I haven’t seen any ticket sales figures I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re looking for some last minute juice to get some walk-up ticket sales. On the other hand, if it’s true they’d better get the word out soon to take advantage of said walk-up business. The kicker that might keep this rumor in BS-ville is that both bands headlined the 2001 Coachella fest, and wouldn’t it be so appropo of the web rumor mill for someone to have seen the archived headline from 8 years ago and misinterpreted it as modern gospel?
Stay tuned to Coachella’s website for any truth to the rumors, and keep your eye on Our Kitchen Sink for my blog report from day one at the festival. If you’re going, look for me- I’ll be the dude wearing the ironic t-shirt and oversized sunglasses.
Indie Alt Country chanteuse Neko Case’s show at the 9:30 Club in DC will be streamed on NPR tonight. Pretty cool, though the idea of listening to something live sounds quaint to me. “Appointment viewing/listening” feels about as relevant as Chrystal Pepsi at this point, but I’m sure it will be posted to listen to after the fact. If I had to choose I’d listen to the New Pornographers over Neko’s solo stuff, but she’s still the coolest girl in the room in 99% of the rooms she’s in.
Here’s the second vid they just put out, for “Rough In The Diamond”:
While one might claim these videos capture the essence of The Ringers, you don’t really get the full experience until you’ve seen them live, inevitably and inadvertently exchanging bodily fluids with lead singer Joe Hursley. For the closest thing while watching your computer screen, you probably have to watch this (feel free to get a towel or handiwipe first):
Friday 3/13
Tonight you’ve got a nice double shot of two artists VIMBY was on before you. I’m just sayin. Pop princess Ms. GaGa should be even more entertaining live than she is on Perez Hilton et all. Chester French might steal the show, even without thigh high leggings. Wiltern Theatre Lady GaGa

Cinema Bizarre
The White Tie Affair
Saturday 3/14
If you’re feeling funky, go to Lyrics Born at the Mint, a great intimate venue to check out one of the more inventive figures in hip-hop. If you’re smelling funky and wear vintage garb, perhaps Black Keys’ frontman Dan Auerbach at the El Rey is the cup of tea you should be sippin’.
Sunday 3/15
It’s time to come to terms with the illegitimate toddler you keep denying is yours, even though she looks just like you and you both are allergic to dairy. Mend the fences by taking her off your babymama’s hands and go to Dan Zanes at UCLA’s Royce Hall.
