Thanks vinyl, we had a nice run there. Sorry to move on so quickly but we’ve decided to move on to cassettes for our latest so-retro-they’re-cool music format of choice. Sure, vinyl sounds better. The artwork kicks ass, especially those gatefold covers. And the aftermarket for creative vinyl uses has spawned interesting coasters, dishes and bowl. In a historic move, the White House uploaded 293 photos into the Official White House Photostream on Flickr this week.
Pete Souza, an assistant professor of photojournalism at Ohio University, is the official White House photographer responsible for these varied and often charming images. Souza photographed President Reagan for over 5 years and has been following Obama’s career since his first year in the Senate. He’s shooting with a Canon 5D Mark II which he picked up after being hired to his current position, which is considered for many the professional camera of choice at the moment. Considering the Mark II also has HD video capabilities, perhaps we can look forward to some footage to go along with these stills in the future.

More details from Sports Illustrated writer Selena Roberts’ book “A-Rod” were released Wednesday by the New York Daily News. The book alleges Rodriguez did not stop using steroids when he was traded to the Yankees in 2004, and he might have been using as far back as high school, the Daily News reports.
Roberts broke the story that A-Rod failed a steroid test in 2003. Yankees teammates, Roberts writes, nicknamed Rodriguez “Bitch Tits” in 2005 because he put on 15 pounds in the offseason that resulted in round pectorals, a condition called gynecomastia that can be caused by anabolic steroids.

Like I prefaced my only other action sports post, I don’t know shit about surfing, bmx, skateboarding etc. But I do enjoy watching (no peeping tom). Three guys shot a documentary (to be released in May) surfing the largely uncharted west coast of Ireland. Very fresh.
